Explore unique sand paintings and traditional ikat weaving.
Step beyond Ubud’s commercial galleries into the warm family compound of Jero Made Kontenshi and his wife, where everyday natural materials and handspun threads are transformed into living Balinese art.
THE EXPERIENCE
Art in Sayan is not separate from daily life—it grows directly from the materials of the home and garden.
Since his youth, Jero Made Kontenshi has cultivated a personal devotion to tactile sand painting and upcycled craftsmanship, turning humble coconut shells into intricate wall ornaments and fragrant pandan leaves into traditional door hangings. Alongside his studio, his wife preserves the meticulous heritage of traditional Balinese ikat and songket weaving, working thread by thread to create expressive heirloom textiles.
Guests are welcomed to browse the couple’s creations, hear the stories behind each piece, and purchase handwoven textiles directly from the family—with all donations and proceeds supporting Jero Made’s household.
